Henry Phipps, Jr. (1839-1930) grew up as a friend and neighbor of Andrew Carnegie and became the co-founder and second-largest shareholder of Carnegie Steel. He was the founder of what became known as the Phipps family, one of America’s traditional business dynasties.
His 39-room Georgian mansion named “Bonnie Blink” (apparently Scottish for Pretty View) was completed in 1919 and served as the family’s summer home. Today, it’s an administration building for the Great Neck School District.
