Werner Otto (1909-2011) was the founder of the Otto Group, the world’s largest mail-order company as well as the world’s second-largest online retailer after Amazon. The company is 100 percent family-owned. As of 2014, Forbes estimates the Ottos' net worth at ~ $18 billion, making them one of the richest families in Europe.
The late patriarch purchased the "Villa M." around 2000 and used it as a primary residence, although he owned several other homes in Germany and Spain.
