William J. Matheson was an industrialist who founded National Aniline and Chemical Company, later acquired by Allied Chemical and Dye Corporation. Matheson and his family donated over 800 acres of Key Biscayne to Dade County. The land later became Matheson Hammock Park and Crandon Park.
Matheson's original house on this property was demolished and this new one built in the early 1990s. The property is currently on the market for $60M.
