Achille Lauro was an Italian politician and ship owner.
One of Lauro's ships, named after himself, was hijacked by the Palestine Liberation Front in 1985. The PLO demanded that 50 Palestinians be released from Israeli prisons. The hijackers killed Jewish-American passenger Leon Klinghoffer, who was confined to a wheelchair, and threw his body overboard.
The ship later caught fire and sank off the coast of Somalia in 1994.
The estate is listed for sale for €50M.
