"Hillwood" was built for Edward F. Hutton and his wife, General Foods heiress Marjorie Merriweather Post, from 1921 to 1929. Hutton co-founded the American stock brokerage firm E. F. Hutton & Co, which became one of the most respected financial firms in the US and for several decades was the second largest brokerage firm in the country. E.F. Hutton merged in 1988 with Shearson Lehman/American Express.
In 1951 "Hillwood" became part of Long Island University's C.W. Post campus. Today the house operates as the administrative offices for the school.
