Christy Walton is the widow of John T. Walton, one of the sons of Sam Walton, the founder of Wal-Mart. After John's death in an experimental airplane crash near the Jackson Airport in June 2005, she inherited a fortune that in 2012 was worth around $29.9 billion. This makes her the wealthiest woman in the country, and one of the 10 richest people in the world. She received more than $430 million in Wal-Mart dividends after taxes in 2012 alone, and also owns a large stake in solar company, First Solar, that is worth $1 billion.
